Default Higher Gas Prices Leading to Fewer SUVS

lthough we were all quite happy to find out that in April, SUVs and light trucks’ market share dropped to the lowest it had been in 9 years, we will be paying for cleaner air by paying for ultra-high gas prices. The gas hike that has been occurring lately has certainly been a leading factor in discouraging motorists from buying vehicles with poor mileage, but as the chart to the left shows, the trend may be worsening with gas prices expecting to hit an all time high of $3.72 (US) per gallon this summer. Although it benefits those of us who are already driving eco-friendly vehicles, the upcoming hike may be enough to make even the worst fuel consumer switch to a hybrid

Default Hybrid SUV

I just saw a thing about a Hybrid SUV that seats 8 and gets 22 miles to the gallon.

Default Fuel Economy

I'm visiting the USA for my holiday this summer and am taking an interest in discussions about fuel prices (with petrol and diesel both at $10 a gallon in the UK your prices look cheap!) I am hiring a car to self drive and the family size saloon will have a 2.5 Lt engine and automatic transmission. If I were hiring in Europe a 1.6 or 1.8 with manual transmission 'stick shift' ... would be the norm. Why are automatic transmissions so popular when they tend to use 20% more fuel?

This is logical. Finally our poor environmental habits are catching up with the economic situation.
