This one angers me so much... People take pets without thinking and treat them as things or toys: "I'll play with it while it's fun, and if it's not, I'll just throw it out." So they take those poor pets out to the country and dump them. That's just bad. How about thinking beforehand whether you can take care of a pet??

Seems to fit pretty well with American society and our view that everything is disposable. Even marriages it seems are thrown away now days more often then they are kept.

Oh I hate when people do that! Are they that stupid that they think a dog or cat can survive on its own? Give me a break!

I think they just don't care. Some of them may be hoping that people living out in the country will pick up the pet and take care of it, that's why pets are often dumped next to houses.

with all due respect, I believe other countries have more stray pets than we do in the States. Of course, that is due to the fact that we invest a lot of tax money into animal shelters, but even that alone speaks volumes about how we try to handle the situation.

there are many stray dogs & cats in America, but not as many as there are in other countries.

Eastern Europe is awful at this!
