I happened to hear this conversation. Parents were talking about how taking away privileges works to discipline kids. One of the things mentioned was taking away permission to watch TV. Then this one lady says, "Oh, this does not work with my son. He does not care one bit if I don't let him watch TV. He just goes and plays on the computer."

Well, DUH!! What a terrible punishment, the kid's having fun anyway!

My kids can watch Television anytime but of course they know their limitation. I have not tried locking up the TV because I love watching cartoons too.

I take it all away. No tv, no computer, no cell phone, no nothing but sitting in theor room looking at the 4 walls. I have been known to even shut off the power to my 17 year old son because he refused to follow the rules.

Yep take it all away. We usually start with one thing and keep going until it`s all gone but the 4 walls .

Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Unpleasant consequences for something done wrong - that will discipline the child. But if they can't watch TV yet are allowed to have fun playing on the computer, what's the point?? I thought it was obvious... I guess not to all parents!

Yeah it is answers like that by clueless parents that leave no doubt why the kids are like they are. They just want the schools to solve all the problems and raise the kids, as long as they don't say anything harsh to them that may hurt their feelings.

ha. my computer and phone were taken away for just over a week, and I didn't bother me. but I could live with out those. I could live with out any of that stuff.... I just wouldn't like it. I can always... read (haha that's funny) go for a walk (Ill do anything to get away from home at anytime gorunded or not) or draw.
