Since gas prices have been through the roof due to what ever the reason they give us today, it always goes back to OPEC and oil companies. I believe they are taking advantage of everyone because they have all went in together and set the price. Which by the way is illegal and should have been stopped, but I am not taking it any more and am having my car outfitted to run off power. I am also going solar so no damage to the power bill. So now OPEC and all the oil companies can just go to, you know where.

oil companies make plenty but they aren't the only ones to blame. Thank the democratic congress for deregulating oil trading on the commodities market. This is what allowed oil speculators to drive the prices way up this year. They use to have to put 50% of the money up front, now they maybe have to put up 5% and if the default, oh well. Congress blames the oil companies and everyone else but they let this happen, won't drill for oil, and denied funding this year for solar and wind power research.

in the South, for example, a big problem is (was) IKE. The damage generated by this hurricane has left all oil operations in the South closed for an indefinite amount of time.

Well that is for sure. It is weeks after Ike and we in South Carolina are stilling seeing gas stations all over with no gas and no way knowing when more will come.
