Default I Hate Best Buy

Best Buy has some bad policies....

Normally, I would not share this with others, however, since this could happen to you or your friends , I decided to share it. If you purchase something from, Wal-Mart, Sam's Club, JC Penny, Sears etc. and you return the item with the receipt they will give you your money back if you paid cash, or credit your account if paid by plastic.

Well, I purchased a GPS for my car, a Tom Tom XL.S from 'Best Buy'. They have a policy that it must be returned within 14 days for a refund!

So after 4 days I returned it in the original box with all the items in the box, with paper work and cords all wrapped in the plastic. Just as I received it, including the receipt.

I explained to the lady at the return desk I did not like the way it could not find store names. The lady at the refund desk said, there is a 15% restock fee, for items returned. I said no one told me that. I said how much would that be. She said it goes by the price of the item. It will be $45.00 Dollars for you. I said, all your going to do is walk over and place it back on the shelf then charge me $45.00 of my money for restocking? She said that's the store policy. I said if more people were aware of it they would not buy anything here! If I bought a $2000.00 computer or TV and returned it I would be charged $300.00 dollars restock fee? She said yes, 15%.

I said OK, just give me my money minus the restock fee.

She said, since the item is over $200.00 dollars, she can't give me my money back!!!

Corporate has to and they will mail you a check in 7 to ten days.!! I said 'WHAT?!'

It's my money!! I paid in cash! I want to buy a different brand..Now I have to wait 7 to 10 days. She said well, our policy is on the back of your receipt.

I said, do you read the front or back of your receipt? She said well, the front! I said so do I, I want to talk to the Manager!.

So the manager comes over, I explained everything to him, and he said, well, sir they should have told you about the policy when you got the item. I said, No one, has ever told me about the check refund or restock fee, whenever I bought items from computers to TVs from Best Buy. The only thing they ever discussed was the worthless extended warranty program. He said, Well, I can give you corporate phone number.

I called corporate. The guy said, well, I'm not supposed to do this but I can give you a 45.00 dollar gift card and you can use it at Best Buy. I told him if I bought something and returned it, you would charge me a restock fee on the item and then send me a check for the remaining 3 dollars. You can keep your gift card, I'm never shopping in Best Buy ever again, and if I would have been smart, I would have charged the whole thing on my credit card! Then I would of cancelled the transaction.

I would have gotten all my money back including your stupid fees! He didn't say a word!

I informed him that I was going to e-mail my friends and give them a heads up on this stores policy, as they don't tell you about all the little caveats.

So please pass this on. It may save your friends from having a bad experience of shopping at Best Buy

It's true! read it for yourself!!

Default ... theres a big sticker on the box.

Best buy is overpriced. There geek squad is rude and not geeky enough to handle real problems. There management is ridiculous. Corporate doesn't care either. The store's look nice which is about the only nice thing that can be said.

I've actually found that Best Buy is more of a worst buy place. Their prices are really overly inflated and the sales people I've come across have been really rude. I don't shop there anymore at all.

Restock fees suck. Like it costs 200 bucks to stick something back on the shelf. They do however put those stickers on every product so it isn't like they are hiding the fact that they want to rip people off.

How about we all quit crying about how much you hate Best Buy, suck it up or go to the local competition. Restocking fee's are a norm in the retail environment, Best Buy is definitely not the only retailer that does this. If there weren't restocking fees on such items, then every time that someone were to return an item, they lose 10% of profit because they had to mark said item down 10% BECAUSE it was an open item. If you were smart, do a little research about the item before you jumped the gun. The employees on the sales floor have enough to talk to you about, while having to deal with your snotty attitudes... now we have to remember to tell you about a 14 day return policy and restocking fee? Read your damn receipt! Quit being scrubs!

my hubby is in agreement, Best Buy he avoids at all costs. Whats funny is the comapny he works for has a service contract with Best Buy and best buy geek squad is the tech support for his hand held work unit and for that they are pretty good.

Thanks for the heads up about their return policy not being friendly. I had no idea hwo bad it was until you explained it.

best buy does have a restocking fee on laptops, cameras, and gps systems. most electronics retailers do have a restock fee now. i work at best buy and sometimes the sticker dosnt get put on the box and by all means that is our fault not yours. however the policy is on the back of the receipt, but i have never seen a manager charge a restock fee for an item that wasn't stickered. it does cost best buy money to put something back on the shelf we have to sell it for a marked down price as we should which is usually 20% of the cost so really we lose 5% on those. i agree our prices can be high, but they can be really great too,(more high than great) we have a price guarantee to all local competitors, 30 day price guarantee on all items but TVS, but a 60 day price guarantee on TVs. im not a manager that is devoted to best buy on that salary dollar. i am a part time home theater employee and a winter time snowboard bum. as a best buy employee i restock the shelves, i clean the department, i sell product, i research product, i reset whats called a planogram (how the displays are set up) as employees we do have a lot on our plates at the work place however it is our job and most of all the employees try very hard to make customers happy. please before i go let me touch up on the warranty. best buy warranty now called geeksquad black tie service is truly a great thing. can u imagine if your TV went out within a year and you sent it to the manufacturer and it took 6 weeks to get it back. well minimum time out is 6-8 weeks MINIMUM. not only do we come to your house and get it but we send it off and put a loaner in its place. not trying to sell it here, but for the most part best buy is a great place and i see more happy people leave than irritated people. i have customers that come back to do business with me i get thank you letters and occasionally a gift from my customers. So please do give best buy a second look.

p.s. usually when we are standing in a group talking we are training on new product you know how technology is.
