Re: I Hate AOL Thread
It's great... for people who don't have a clue what they're doing. It's a relatively self-contained "community" that gives you links to whatever Ted Turner & boys want you to see. News, business, sports, politics, entertainment... I used them in the past, but soon found other options, and realized that this went from "the only game in town" to "the ISP for kids, soccermoms, and the technologically challenged. Plus the damn program got clunky as hell and tried taking over things. I tried keeping it around to be able to help less savvy folks in my family, but gutted it because it kept trying to take over.
Get rid of AOL? Easy! Call them up, and tell them to bugger off. Don't take any of their nonsense, either Ensure that your bank/credit card will not accept further charges from them. Go to your Control Panel, and use the Add/Remove programs function, and remove things like America Online, AOL, AIM (unless you use their messenger), AOL Toolbar, etc. Probably have to reboot your machine. All gone, you're now AOL-Free
