Default Grow Op House Label Angers New Owners

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario - A Toronto-area couple is fuming about a municipal letter they received saying their house was formerly used to grow hydroponic marijuana.Gus and Catherine Zourntos of Mississauga, adjacent to Toronto, got a registered letter from the city's enforcement division this week that said their house would have to undergo stringent checks by the city's enforcement, building and health departments.Known among Canadian law enforcement agencies as "grow-ops," houses and other inconspicuous buildings are converted into large-scale marijuana farms.Catherine Zourntos told the Toronto Sun she and her husband have lived in the house for 12 years in a neighborhood where property values average $1 million. Her 65-year-old husband said the family's name has now been linked to the marijuana trade, and he said he demanded an apology. They got a telephone apology Thursday from Jamie Hinton, the city's manager of compliance, who explained it was an administrative error. Hinton told the couple they'll get an apology and explanation in writing within days, the Sun said.

A letter of apology? That's it? If this happened in the United States there would be a lawsuit involved. People aren't as blood thirsty up in Moose-Land as they are in the good ole U S of A.
